In this weeks episode:

Welcome! I’m beginning my third year of podcasting! I can’t believe it’s been THAT long since this all began! And to go along with that, the blog has made the top 50 Nursing Blogs on the web!! Wooohooo!!!! It’s an honor to be considered one of the best blogs on the web!

Don’t forget about the nursing cruise I talked about on the last show! It promises to be both fun and educational! Find out more and sign up for the newsletter about the cruise at THIS LINK.

Ever wanted to know more about interpreting an arterial blood gas report? Well, now you can! I’m offering a live class on ABG interpretation the end of this month! Just go to PhoenixCE and sign up for it! AND, you’ll get 3 CEU’s for attending too!

I also have another course coming out by the end of July. This one is on ACS and STEMI care. It’s going to be worth 1+ CEU’s and will cover the basics of ACS and the different presentations in men and women, as well as diagnosis and care of the STEMI patient.

And, check out “Profiles in Success” on iTunes. It’s a once weekly (Saturday) podcast from JB Glossinger, the founder of Morning Coach. The podcast is a 15 minute interview of people who have been successful in their lives (both personal and professional) and this week, he’s interviewing me! It promises to be an interesting interview. Look for it this coming Saturday!

Also this week, I’m a panelist on another podcast. This one is by Jamie Daivs, the Podmedic. The show is “Insights in Nursing”. This week, we discuss research studies and their outcomes, and a few other interesting topics! Take a listen!

In the news today:

An article from Emergency Medicine News about potential new rules from the CMS. This time, I actually think it’s a good idea. They’re looking at benchmarking throughput times for ED patients. This may give hospital administrations a financial incentive to get admitted patients OUT of the ED sooner! Let’s hope!

Also, an article from EMS Responder online magazine about patient assessment. This is where the entire continuum of care truly begins and it needs to be correct. I love this article. Take a look and see what you think!

Another article from Emergency Medicine News, this time on Propofol and the new ruling from the FDA on its use in areas outside the OR. Very interesting article!

A “fun” article from JEMS.com that looks back on some history in emergency medicine and the tools we used to use. For those who have been around as long as I have or longer, back from when EMS was truly in its’ infancy, it’s a fun trip through memory lane. And for those who are relatively newer, it might be cool to read about some of the things we used to use.

An article form Medical News Today about the questionable benefits of tight blood pressure control.

And finally, an article from Med Page Today about using goal setting and follow up to better change peoples’ lifestyles for health.

OK, now on with the show!
